COUNSELING, EDUCATION, & WELLNESS

Ballan Counseling’s therapeutic approach is adapted to each individual, utilizing:

  • Problem Solving/Solution Focused Therapy: This is a goal-directed collaborative approach, that is conducted through direct observation of individual’s responses to a series of precisely constructed questions.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): This is an approach that aims to improve mental health by focusing on challenging and changing unhelpful cognitive distortions (thoughts) and behaviors, improving emotional regulation (flexibility and tolerance), and the development of personal coping skills and strategies that target solving current challenges in life.
  • Motivational Interviewing: This is a directive and individually-centered counseling approach utilized for eliciting behavior change by helping him/her explore and resolve ambivalence (hesitation).

Also, Ballan Counseling’s healing perspective is rooted in:

  • Strength-based: This perspective focuses on an individuals’ right to self-determination, building on an individual’s inherent strengths and seeing him/her as resourceful and resilient during challenging times in life. The most powerful essence of this approach is client led and centered on future outcomes based on individual skill set and strengths. What are your strengths?
  • Person-in-environment: This principle highlights the importance of understanding an individual, individual culture and individual behavior in light of the environmental contexts in which that person lives and act. How do you think this affects you?
  • Bio-psycho-social-spiritual: This model supports the idea that there are biological, psychological, and social determinants to our well-being.  Also, equally important, is spiritual (not in the sense of religion), but more relating to a human being’s purpose in life. What give’s you purpose? What gets you out of bed in the morning?
